The Economic Development office offers significant incentive packages and works with local, regional, state and federal grants and low interest loans to assist businesses in expanding and relocating. Tax Increment Financing and Economic Development Grants are offered to industrial businesses relocating or expanding as well. The Smokefree Air Act was signed into law by Governor Chet Culver on April 15, 2008. The law went into effect on July 1, 2008. Smoking is regulated in public places, places of employment, and certain outdoor areas. The Smokefree Air Act outlines areas where smoking is prohibited, areas where smoking is not regulated, enforcement details, and scheduled penalties for persons and businesses that violate the law. No registration of a business is needed in Allamakee County, but we advise that you register your business for a trade name at the Recorder's Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street, Waukon or please see the attached file. The form also needs to be signed in front of a notary before recording and the recording fee is $7.00.

The Waukon Vision Study aimed to identify civic needs and wants. This study focused on concerns that were identified during three separate visioning workshops to create a vision for the future. This master plan was presented to the community to receive feedback. Any feedback that was received was incorporated and presented, and 107 different ideas were collected. The three major themes developed include: Connections, Architectural Heritage and Natural Attractions.
